AGW-Net steering committee meeting

Saturday 14th August 2010. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The steering committee meeting held on Saturday 14th August 2010 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia brought together 14 individuals, representing an important cross section of organizations that are active in the management of groundwater in Africa. Your steering committee representatives in Addis Ababa were: Richard Owen (manager - Zimbabwe), Daniel Nkhuwa (Zambia), Callist Tindimugaya (Uganda), Muna Mirghani (Sudan), Tenalem Ayenew (Ethiopia) and Tamiru Abiye (South Africa). Two other members, Martin Eduvie (Nigeria) and Moustapha Diene (Senegal) were actually on the way to Addis when their plane suffered a mechanical failure and they were unable to make the meeting.

In addition to AGW-Net, the following organizations were represented at the meeting: Cap-Net (Paul Taylor), BGR (Vanessa Vaessen and Sara Vassolo), WaterNet (David Love), GEUS & Burdon Groundwater Network (Karen Villholth), GWMate (Albert Tunihof), SADC-GDMP (Philip Beetlestone), Lake Chad Basin Commission (Mohammed Bila).

In general there is a high level of satisfaction with the progress made by AGW-Net to date, but sadly the funding for future years is very tenuous, and apart from continued but reduced support from CapNet, no other funding was pledged at this meeting.
