Groundwater Conference in South Africa
VENUE: CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa
DATE: 19th September 2011
The Ground Water Division of South Africa, in association with the International Association of Hydrogeologists, has developed an exciting programme that includes pre-conference workshops, technical papers presentations, poster sessions, invited technical sessions, IAH Council and Committee meetings, exhibitions and local tours of technical interest. As groundwater becomes a preferred or conjunctive source of water, our challenges for managing the resource are becoming more complex. Globally the rate of pumping has doubled, in the last few decades, and the signs of overdraft and degradation are already visible in many parts of the world. However, groundwater still remains a hugely untapped source of water. Effective management will not only rely on the improvement of our scientific understanding but also long-term political commitment, well functioning institutions and supporting legislation. We will have a healthy mix of local and international papers that will enable us to share knowledge on how to manage our groundwater resources better.
The conference has been designed to appeal to groundwater scientists, managers and planners, environmental scientists, journalists, economists, public-sector officials and others working at the front line of service delivery, natural resource management and governance. We look forward to meeting you at the conference!
