AGW-Net Executive Committee Elections

Submit your name for election or re-election to the AGW-Net Manager or Steering Committee. Join the challenge of ensuring the safe sustainable development of Africa's groundwater resources. Send you name, country, place of employment and job title to the network manager at richardo@zol.co.zw and, if you wish, include any message that you may have for the membership. I will send out these details to the network members in a special election newsletter.    

 

From the June newsletter:  The rules of governance for AGW-Net state that elections be held every 3 years for a new network manager and new steering committee members. Since the network started in July 2008, it is now time for elections. If you are prepared to stand for election, then please submit your names to me, with a short paragraph on your planned objectives if you are elected. Please indicate whether you wish to stand for the position of Network Manager or Steering Committee member. I will compile a list of candidates on a ballot form and send it out to the membership for voting, with a view to having a new management team ready and in place by the end of the year in time for the 2012 contract with CapNet. For practical financial reasons, CapNet signs an annual contract with AGW-Net and it is therefore sensible for the change of management to take place at the end of a calendar year.   

We are therefore calling for an election to select a new manager and steering committee by e-voting. The first step of this campaign is a call to members to submit their names for the position of network manager, and for the positions of network steering committee members. The steering committee consists of between 5 and 8 members, and the steering committee should represent all regions of Africa and also include representation for Francophone Africa.  Please note that existing members of the AGW-Net executive can stand again provided that they do not hold office for more than two consecutive terms at any time. Moreover we strongly encourage those members of the existing executive to consider standing again to ensure some degree of continuity.

Please note that steering committee membership is a voluntary unpaid position. The network manager controls a core-budget of approximately $12,000 per year to cover network management, web site hosting and internet costs, office hire, etc, and this includes a monthly honorarium of $500 for the manager. All other funding comes from ad hoc activities, such as short courses, that are arranged by your executive committee.
